The Light at the End of Gore’s Tunnel is a Train

Have you ever heard about how other countries with a monarch-style government arrange the marriage of the prince when he is born?  Basically, what happens is that when a male is born into a royal family, they will make an arrangement with another family of good bloodline that has a daughter of similar age.  Practically from birth the young girl is raised and taught how to walk, talk, eat, sleep, and act like a queen.  What happens, though, if when the wedding time finally arrives and the prince decides he wants to marry someone else?  Well, that’s exactly what happened to Al Gore on election day, 2000.

Being the son of a prominent Tennessee Senator, young Al was groomed for politics practically since birth.  He grew up in a hotel suite in Washington, D.C. so he had a front line education on how to survive on the Hill.  When the Viet Nam war came around, Al Gore, Sr. told his frightened son that if he didn’t participate in the war that it may come back to harm his political career.  So young Al went, but as a military journalist and with a couple of bodyguards.  Oh, and by the way, he only served about half of the usual 12-month tour.  After trying to be a journalist and then a farmer, Al finally took a plunge into politics in 1976 and had an 8-year stretch in the U.S. House and then served in the U.S. Senate until becoming Vice President in 1992.

So here he is, Vice President of the United States, and heir apparent to the Democratic throne in 2000.  The only problem is that he lost the election.  He never connected with the American public from the beginning and then really screwed himself in the debates by changing his personality three different times.  To add insult to injury, it was one of the closest elections in U.S. History.  So does Al graciously concede and live to fight another day?  Nope!  After a lifetime of preparation, the fact that the prince decided to marry someone else hasn’t stopped the Gore camp from holding on to the dream.  They have counted the votes, and they have recounted the votes, and he still lost.  Now the Gore camp is threatening legal challenges and to not rest until they find a way to win.  They shadow their efforts by claiming to only have the “American people’s interests in mind”, but anyone with half a brain knows better.

Anyone who had followed Al Gore’s career knows he has historically been kind of a “whiney-baby”, crying when he doesn’t get what he wants, and they probably should’ve guessed that he wouldn’t go quietly.  A man who has spent his entire life trying to become President isn’t going to let a little thing like the will of the American voters get in the way of his dream.  One could understand that Florida law mandated an automatic recount, and it has taken place, and Bush is still ahead.  Even prominent Democrats are urging Gore not to seek a legal solution to this process in fear that it will only hurt the Democrat’s image.  From this point, all of the Gore Camp’s antics simply look like rage, and an obsessive-compulsive denial of reality.  Gore should stop leading his supporters on to believe that they still have a chance of winning and simply concede to save his own reputation.  He insists that there still may be a light at the end of the tunnel, but unfortunately, Mr. Gore, it’s a train from Texas that’s on its way to Washington, D.C..
