It is clear that Al Gore and
the Democrats are going to do and say whatever it takes to win this
election. Knowing this, a long-term strategy for the Bush campaign has
come to mind. Some obvious and historical
factors helped me devise the strategy: * Obviously, the candidate who
wins this race is going to have a weak Presidency. * Historically, every
President who has won the electoral college vote, but lost the popular
vote was a weak one term President * Historically, the party who
wins the Presidency almost automatically loses seats in the House and
Senate two years later. Just looking at these three
factors it is clear that a Bush win would be better for the country in
the short term, but may have a weaker long-term effect.
Therefore, I would advise Bush to concede in this fashion: The Bush campaign should hold
press conference with Colin Powell, Norman Schwarzkopf, James Baker,
and as many credible, patriotic Americans they can find. The scenery should be
patriotic. George Bush should make brief and pointed remarks. "Mr. Vice President, it
is obvious that you will stop at nothing to overturn this election and
in the process drag our country through a legal mess and jeopardize
our standing around the world. Mr. Vice President your place
in history is now set and because my love of country is and always has
been above my love of personal ambition I am conceding the race for
the President of the Untied States of America.
And Mr. Gore in case you were wondering, don't worry, I'll see
you in four years." Let's face it.
If Bush does that he will be the President in 2004. Gore will be a weak one term President and the Republicans
will increase their majority in 2002 and 2004. If Bush fights this and wins
not only will he be a weak one term President, but the democrats will
take over the house and senate. Of course, that used
to be my strategy. Then Al Gore had a press
conference Monday. In the
press conference, Mr. Gore actually said that the one "saving
grace" in all of this is that our school children get to see how
our country picks its President and how our democracy works. Really Mr. Vice President!
Just like how Mr. Clinton taught our children that it is ok to
lie and that it's not your fault if you get in trouble. Plan B-New Strategy: Republicans must win this election no matter the future consequences to show our school children how we select a president and how our democracy works. Join the conversation about the election... © Brent Barksdale, 2000
