Former California Assemblywoman Audie Bock will announce early next week that she intends to challenge Oakland Congresswoman Barbara Lee for California's 9th Congressional District seat in the March 5th Democratic Primary.

Sources close to the Bock campaign say that a major issue will be Lee's controversial vote against a resolution giving President Bush authority to use necessary force against terrorism.

Audie Bock made history in 1999 when she was elected to the California State Assembly as a Green Party candidate. Bock was the first Green party candidate elected to state office. She subsequently re-registered as an independent.

Bock was defeated for re-election in 2000 when she was actively opposed by the Democratic Party.
